Locked in the dungeon of Saint Angelo’s castle, where thousands of innocent victims of the Great Inquisition met their deaths, your team has one hour to escape.
This room is one of Komnata’s first games and was recently relocated to their Greenpoint, Brooklyn location. Very heavily task-based, even for Komnata, this certainly was not a puzzle-centric room. Inside this castle, most tasks ranged between actions including sensory triggers and symbol alignment. There was an outside-the-box task that made us very hesitant to complete, based on many common escape room rules.
Saint Angelo’s Castle was dark. Very dark. This added to the dungeon feel of the room. However, there were instances in which the darkness inhibited the puzzles more than it enhanced the theme.
For a dark dungeon escape room, nothing felt out of place. The eerie vibe seemed to persist throughout the course of the room which added to the experience. The final puzzle was thematic and made sense in the context of where it was in the room.
An added bonus that we enjoyed were the robes we were provided to wear. They certainly added to the levels of immersion.
Beyond the darkness, there really wasn’t much to do. Our group worked through this room rather quickly not and was only held up in an instance where a room component had been failed to be reset.
This Room is a Good Match for
Those not afraid of the dark or mind being held in restraints.
